Halfshaft Question
My understanding is that the later ones are 3" instead of 2-1/2"...that's great...but is there some reason the later halfshaft won't FIT on my 1970? Did the splines change or something?
Put another way: If I can get a set of 3" shafts on the cheap, can I use them? I'm rebuilding them with solid Spicer universals, but do I need to also replace one of the yokes with an earlier yoke or something?
Just trying to understand before I pull the trigger on aquiring the newer shafts. If they're SO different that they're useless to me, I'd like to know now instead of later.
Same question on the main driveshaft as well.
Thanks all!
Keith
I'm getting a '76 frame and modifying it for use underneath my '70 driver-quality car. I'm preparing for a rolling-chassis build outside my existing (running) car.
The seller has offered some other parts for the asking and I learned that the driveshafts were different between the years.
If all else was equal, I figured 3" shafts were 'better' than 2-1/2" shafts, but quite obviously, I don't want to invest in their purchase or rebuild if there is a good reason they won't fit on my car.
Thanks for the input.
Keith
