Default Sidepipe kit for ALUM heads??

Hi All!,

OK! built a 454 w ALUM heads, AND realized how hard it is to find a sidepipe/header kit...APPARENTLY the sidepipe header kits do NOT like aluminum heads because of the raised ports.

I put in a call to STAINLESSWORKS, but they do not manufacture them, AND may do a special run. Other than that, no leads.

need to figure out how to get something to work with the ALUM heads and stock sidepipe exhaust covers

anyone use a company that does this? thoughts?

Thanks! Always appreciate the GREAT INFO!

call sanderson headers. and mcjacks, then just have your high performance muffler shop fab up the rest of the exhaust, very easy to do have your stock covers there with you when making the side pipe part.

You might want to check with Stahl Headers. They do offer them for your car with a small block and have been known to build for special applications. Most have said their headers, particularly for side-pipes are outstanding.

Good luck... GUSTO

? I run regular flavor Hooker sidemounts on my aluminum head 350. Heads are PBM Strike Force.

For a variety of reasons, I was having some issues sealing the exhaust flange. I ended up using Earl's Pressure Master gaskets...AMAZING. No blowouts, no leaks, no problem. A little expensive, but worth every penny for me.

Another thing I did was order the longest stainless ARP 3/8" header bolts I could get...1-1/4", I believe. That allowed me to grab more of the threads in the aluminum heads and make me feel pretty good about giving them some torque as necessary.

And be sure to use anti-sieze on everything. You'll gaul the hell out of those heads in a heartbeat.

Small block aluminum heads don't have raised ports like the big blocks do.

Several weeks ago, there was a thread about hooker sidemounts and raised port heads. It seems that they'll fit on some cars and others they won't. I stayed away from the raised ports when i built my 502 for just this reason.

I'm looking at the same thing- I set a bare block in the car and then put a pair of .100 thick head gaskets on (+.200) and then heads with .250 raised ports. (+.250). My Hooker sidemounts bolted up no problem. I'm going to have to extend the factory "ding" in the primary tube, and they are close under the frame, but they DID fit. Bottom line for me is the .300 raised port heads won't be any deal.

Hooker ceramic coated (Jet Hot) with 2-1/8 primaries. No idea what part number they are.

Didn't we tell you to try the hooker sidemounts in your other two threads about this?

Yes, Qwank it was said...but want to use the factory shields...which is where the dilemma is.

I did get great info, and am hoping to work with stahl. -which I did not get in previous threads

just asking the question differently and getting more info.

thanks!

I believe mine are .300. I don't remember having any trouble installing mine. Can't believe .400 would be a problem.
