I have been working to get the vacuum system for headlites and wipers back on track. The vacuum hose comes from the rear of the manifold, thru a filter and then thru a splitter which is also a "valve", to prevent backflow away from the manifold. Therefore, as I have read here, the valve should suck toward the manifold only. So I ordered a new one from Zip but it sucks AND blows !!! Is this how you understand this part? Tomorrow I will call them to double check on this and let you know what they say.
there is a vacuum filter (i think thats the white plastic one... but i dont remember) then theres a vacuum check valve so the vacuum dont bleed out(thats the metal one if i remember right...)
It is both a valve and a splitter. It should allow vacuum to be pulled but should close up not allowing flow in the opposite direction. If it is bad and allows flow in both directions, the signal will see no vacuum and the HL and Wiper door will open when the engine is shut down.
Stevo,i'm going down the same track with my74R,from the manifold, first comes the white plastic filter, then the check valve/splitter.....the splitter has one to the underdash override switch and the otherto the vac tank....the one that goes to the override switch then splits again to the on/off switch and the oride switch......if you have a wiper door, there is anor split valve to that......the splitter is a one way valve.....the filter seems to work both ways.....goodness only knows what the filter is protecting against......john
This check-valve should indeed only blow in one direction: Into the manifold.
If you want to avoid the cost of the original check-valve (or just for testing), get a checkvalve which is used in all modern passenger cars in the vacuum line to the power-brake booster. These are much cheaper and in combination with an additional tee, they work just fine.
