Default Fuel Pump Mystery

Well I'm stumped. Last year I replaced the fuel pump because I had a large oil leak in that area and the problem was fixed. Now there seems to be a small amount of oil/fuel that settles on the top lip of the fuel pump after short drives (afraid to drive far from home). I have the bolt in place at the front of the block so I know thats not a problem and also re-tightened the bolts on the pump. Can a replacement pump go bad in a year?? Frustrated and in need of guidance.

Yes, I've had brand new and rebuilt parts (not fuel pump) be bad right out of the box.
I think you have to wipe it clean and run the car and find the leak.
Keep a extinguisher handy.
Check the line fittings. You might have to crack them open a bit and retighten them to get them to seat correctly.

Short answer: Yes.
You didn't mention is your pump is sealed with a ring, or is it bolted together? If the former, there isn't much to be done other than replace the pump. If it is bolted together you can try to repair it be taking it apart and see if you can find the leak.

When I previously replaced it I put in new fuel lines and fittings so I know its not that. Its also the sealed version so it looks like I'll probably be trying out another new pump and hoping for the best

This can be very frustrating. I installed a NAPA pump which failed the second day. The second NAPA pump has not failed after 5 months. I guess that it is the "luck of the draw".
