Ladies & Gentlemen, I've got a two-tone blue 1982 Crossfire with a fuel
problem. Less than a month ago I had a new crated GM motor installed
and am very pleased with that. I have what seems like a fuel imballance
delimma. When I start the car up in the mornings it takes a minute or two
to warm up. My fuel indicator is jumping around the dial like a geiger counter. As I start acceleration the needle is jumping around, and while I know that during decleration some fuel will sloch in the tank causing the needle to move around - this anomaly happens will full
load power is on the engine. I've had the fuel pump, filter replaced. Any ideas on what the solution can be.
My fuel guage doesn't jump around, but my oil pressure does what you are describing. I'm still trying to figure that one out - I hope I don't have bad oil flow.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I have to ask, can I do this myself or would you suggest that I take to a professional who can test it after the repair is done. I will ask my mechanic this afternoon to take a look at it. I truly hope this cure's what's ailing my baby.
You can replace the entire sender (a little expensive). It's relatibly easy. Remove the rubber grommet under the gas lid, remove the lid, undo the connector to the fuel pump, remove tuel lines, unbolt flange, pull the sender/fuel pump out. Rotate while trying to pull gently. It will only come out in 1 position.
This morning I took my baby to the mechanic - its the sending unit. I've look'd at some aftermarket products (ZIP), (MID AMERICA) this thing
cost $359.00. It's kill'n me. I guess this was to be expected since it was
the original one put in 20 years ago.
