Default Roll bar for a 1972 coupe

I'm looking for a roll bar for a 1972 coupe. I don't want a full cage, just something that is only behind the seats (mostly), that I can use to attach 4 point seatbelts to for extra safety. What options are out there?

Thanks!

Would prefer a bolt-on roll bar, that doesn't interfere too much with the cargo area, so that I can still store the t-tops and rear window back there.

I have a SharkBar in my 72 convert, it is bolt in and really stiffens things up. They used to make one for coupes but don't see it on the site. You could email Dan and have him make one up if this is the route you wanted to go.

Nice Vette! I just bought a '72 Targa Blue/Blue coupe. It also has an L-88 hood. It even has the same tires!

It's going into the shop to get a few things fixed and upgraded, and I should have it in 2-3 weeks hopefully.

It's got a pretty hot 383 Stroker in it and seems almost as fast as my '66 L-72 roadster.

Thanks again!

There are limitations you should be aware of.

I have a shark bar in my 69 and a 5-point G-Force harness. I have to say that access to the rear compartment area is severely compromised despite my having the bar pressed all the way up to the rear of the seats. Used to be I could tilt my seats forward and that made for a lot of room to get to the back. But with the shoulder harness in place, tilting the seats (Recaros) forward does no good because the shoulder straps are there (and the Recaros do not tilt anywhere near as much as the stock seats, anyway). I haven't put my t-tops back there yet for fear of scratching them. Right now they can only go in with the rear window out because the shoulder harness is in the way. Waiting to get a foam wrap around the bar before I try.

Have looked around a bit for some sort of quick disconnect for the shoulder harness but haven't found anything. If there were something like that, I could then tilt the seats and slide the tops in without going through the window. No ideas yet on that score.

ignatz,

Thanks for the pic and advice. I'm planning to stay with the stock seats for now, just want to improve safety a little.

Maybe you could add buckles on your shoulders like the quick release buckles on an Army parachute harness? You can see the left quick release in my profile pic (click on it for a better view).

You can at least get the belts out of the way with the stock shoulder clip.

I took a harder look at my set up. The Recaros have a fixed size hole which the adjustable part of my harness doesn't fit through. If I get the shoulder belt sewn directly to the lap belt harness clip (eliminating the adjustable mechanism) I can get what I want here. So … you helped me, how about that!

Great, glad I could help! Just make sure it's stitched strong enough to take the load if you ever put it to the test (hopefully never). Thanks for your help too.
