From what I read, umbrella OR o-ring. But for the best seal, go with a positive locking seal locked over the guide and valve stem. Positive seal does not ride with the valve. It stays locked over the top of the guide and wipes the valve stem as the valve moves up/down.
I have a 74 L48 that was giving a good puff of smoke on startup from bad stem seals, I just replaced with factory style O rings and the problem was fixed. Your seals will be very brittle and just fall apart when you go to replace them, that is the only reason they have failed.
