Clutch problems
Just installed a new Hays clutch when trying to shift into reverse really bad gear clash occurs. New as close to Bronze pilot bushing,GM clutch fork. Throwout bearing is on correctly. About 1.5 free play on pedal. Any ideas welcomed

I just installed a new RAM HDX clutch kit when I rebuilt the engine but i removed the engine, leaving the transmission in the car and NOT disturbing the shifting rods. I reused the GM clutch fork but could not get the tranny into gear when I started the car and had grinding going into reverse. I had to adjust the clutch rod under the power brake booster to get everything to work correctly.

Yes I always do the 1st gear before reverse. The gears seem to be really spinning hard My old clutch was adjusted with almost no free play. All the new components I might add were almost exact the same height. Also when free play is adjusted it is with the spring disconnected?

When I got my car it had the clutch adjusted to no free play, I adjusted it to factory spec free play and had the same issue. Added both missing springs on the clutch linkage and adjusted just enough to get the throwout bearing off the fingers with clutch released and works fine now. I assumed that my clutch was just worn?
