strong gas smell
I have a nice 74 it sits 3 weeks at a time. It has a stock 350 with Auto. when I get home can't wait to drive it but it keeps having a strong gas smell, but no leaks??? any tips would be nice thanks moondoggy outttt.

do you only smell the leak on a full tank or the level doesnt make a difference? did you check the charcoal canister filter?

As a simple question what climate do you live in and how often does the garage get opened up? Gas fumes / vapors can accumulate just from evaporation out of the carb or a bad vent on the fuel cap. A new fuel cap is an easy place to start.

Gas cap should be non-vented but could be shot.

First thing I did was figure out if smell was coming from front or rear part of car (it was the front). Then found it was strongest over the manifold. found stains on the carb bowl. Tightened bowl bolts, smell much better. Etc, etc. sometimes you have to sniff around the tank, under the car, the side gills, all around the engine compartment to find where it's strongest!
