BB ready for assembly, rotating asembly picked up today.
Just picked up the crank, balancer, flywheel, rods & pistons from the shop today. I had the shop balance the rotating assembly and the pistons fitted to the rods after new rod bolts were installed.
This was the final "machine shop" work that needed done. Now I can start my actual engine assembly. :yesnod:
A big thanks to Mountainmotor for all the help & direction.

how much power you hoping to make? what are all the details
It'll probably be your garden variety 454. :D 0.06 bore, TRW 2399 pistons, GMPP 2.25 aluminum heads, Holley DP, you know the usual. You can check out the 454 page at my site http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/the...t/index9.shtml for more details.
I'm hoping for at least 400HP & 500 TQ.
Pat--I'm working on the pics. I'd like to wait until I have it somewhat assembled. I like to see engine parts too.

thanks. interesting about the GM heads. how do Edelbrock's 454-O compare? what about price? on my purposed rebuild, I would like to stick with GM stuff as much as possible. I want stock look, but more power.

I checked The Chevy High Performance air flow files and these OVAL, 110cc chambers performed the best in their 290cc intake class. I don't remember if they tested the Edelbrocks or not. Someone posted that Edelbrock makes the aluminum heads for GM!! I don't know for sure. I got them at Sallee for the same price as the Edelbrock only these have the 2.25 valves. There's a Sallee link & GMPP link on my site. They were about $825ea.

Glad to see things are really coming together for you. When you get the big block assembled, we're going to have to get together so you can take me for a ride.

The cam? I was settling on the comp 294-4 when I ran into Mountainmotor. In fact it's still sitting in my garage.
Mountainmotor has been helping me with the engine and he hooked me up with what he thinks is an appropriate cam for my setup. I have no idea what the specs are and as per Mountain he always grinds off any identifying marks. It is a solid cam and was a good deal. I know nothing about picking a cam. Mountainmotor has a lot of experience in this area and hasn't dissappointed me yet.
Let's call it a mystery cam. The engine will be a complete mystery to me if it turns over on the first attempt.---- This is my first complete top to bottom rebuild!
Re: BB ready for assembly, rotating asembly picked up today. (1970 Stingray)
1970,
You should be getting more than 400 h.p/ 500 tq. The stock 1970 LS5 put out 390 h.p/500 tq at 10.25 cr. and mild .480 lift cam. If you have new hi flow Heads ... that alone is good for approx. 40-50 h.p gain. If you have Headers too, then getting even more. (i am talking gross figures here of course)
Just got my LS 5 rebuilt and went with Hdr. Roller aggresive cam. See sig. below. Gave much more acceleration than stock motor did . The balancing and Fluidamper counteracted the wide duration/high lift cam lope...but she still goes 'Rumpity Rump' !

Bence and I have this same cam. It's 294/294 with .595/.595 lift and a 110 Lobe Seperation. Havn't gotten mine fired up yet, but he asure's me I'll like like it.

Well I think Bence is now thinking about swapping cams. I've been watching all the BB builds and how they turned out. I talked with Curtis and told him what I wanted and he hooked me up with a cam.
Rumpity---I have no way to determine or predict HP with varying setups. I'm not that "engine smart". I just wanted more getup and go than my SB had and I figured if I was going to do a complete rebuild, it may as well be a BB. I think I'd always regret NOT doing a BB if I settled on a SB.
