I am having a hell of a time getting the Road demon to work right on my zz4. I called Demon today and they told me they make a specific carb for the motor. It is Demon #1282010Czz4. It is a mech sec. 650 speed demon. It is suppose to be already tuned for the motor. I was wondering if anyone is running this one yet? I am considering buying it and selling the road demon.
When you bought the carb did you buy it specifical for the zz4 and if so, did you tell whoever you bought it from what you where buying for? If so wonder why they did not know about the special carb? Just curious.
I don't have a ZZ4, but I am running a Speed Demon 650 mechanical secondary carb on my 69 L46. I must say this is the best carb I have ever had on this motor. I have had a Rochester, Holley 4160, and a Holley 4150. None of them compare to this one. I just bolted it on out of the box, with no modifications. It fires on the first crank over, no pumping the gas. It idles great right at startup, even though there is no choke, and the driveability is great.
No I actually bought the carb for my old 270 horse motor. The quadrajet crapped out and I deciede to upgrade to a demon. From the horse power ratings and other info I determine the road demon was best. It ran great on the old motor, but is give problems with the zz4. I only found out about the special carb when I called to get help about getting the road demon to work on the zz4.
I had the same thing happen to me. Bought the Road Demon for the old engine, worked GREAT. Then I realized the motor was crap. (long story) Bought a ZZ4, havn't had the pleasure of starting it yet but from the sound of things I'm now looking at a carb that might not work. I found the "ZZ4 Carb" in the Scoggin-Dickey catalogue and from the sound of your posts looks like I'll be getting one soon.
I am running a Lars rebuilt and tuned Q-jet. I runs great and I think the Q-jet is the carb GM used to Dyno the ZZ4 (don't quote me on that though).

Well I cannot get the Road demon to idle below 1100. I also cannot get it to stop running rich. Those are the two problems I am having. Before I advanced the timing it was idling around 800-900 rpm and still ran rich. I am guessing that the carb is not moving enough air at idle.
