But it doesn't get into the bowls (dude), only in the throat, then into the engine. Any water was long gone way before got home.

well dude, Mike Ward is more than capable of defending his position on this but, if the water goes through the butterflies it is in the engine, no ifs ands or buts. the only way it could get into the bowl is through the tiny little bowl vents on the carburetor. which is the highest point on the carburetor . water would be in the engine before it would e in the bowls even if the car was submerged under 6' of water. i think you have an ignition issue, a wet coil or cap or module or bad wires along that line. the fuel system would quickly run through the moisture, the ignition could easily continue to give problems

sorry Mike,

sorry Mike,
I emptied the bowls as a precaution. The heavy thunderstorm put some serious water down the carb. The air filter was drenched. I dried everything i could think of....new air filter and it is running fine now. No need for me to pull the tank, pull the motor or get a new motor.

All is fine guys.

Thanks for the input.

I agree but the water didn't just all of a sudden get into the carb. It came from the tank. With the fuel....

CanadaGrant...it was a thunderstorm that was raining cats and dogs. It went in through the air cleaner butterflies. it probably never made it to the tank. It was all in the carb. It did all of a sudden get into the carb. It was a thunderstorm and I had no immediate shelter to get the car into or under. I was driving about 75 when it hit me and a flood of water went in through the butterflies of the air cleaner. It was almost immediate that the car died on me. I dried everything off, but the car ran like crap because I was in a thunderstorm and there was water mixed with gas in the carb for a brief period of time. It doesn't detonate very well in those conditions.

It's alright now Grant. The car is running fine now. It had a brief drowning event, but it is fine now. OK? We good here?

I'm a New England boy, and we get some pretty crazy weather up here, as in unpredictable. Whenever you have the T-tops off, it can be an absolutely gorgeous day, not a cloud in the sky, but you're still thinking, "it could start raining 5 minutes from now...I've seen it happen." I've been walking around in shorts and a tee-shirt in February, but I've also seen snow in May. It's weird, but you get used to it. But we don't really get the crazy extremes that happen in other parts of the country. I've been out in the Midwest and seen the kind of sudden downpours that he is talking about. Raindrops so big, they actually hurt when they hit you. Flash floods because the volume of water is so great, in such a short time, that the ground doesn't have time to absorb it. It's actually a little bit scary if you've never experienced it before. We sure as hell don't get rainstorms like that up here in N.E.!!!
