In process of replacing the accumulator. Went to the local Auto Parts stores and they only have available universal models which include a separate lower tube that you mount in the position needed. I did see accumulators at Corvette vendors that have the tube welded in place as original.
Questions: Are the universal models a good choice?
Steps involved in changing the accumulator?
Looks like the coolant tank has to removed?
I'm going to guess the 77 is very similar in this area. Remove coolant recovery tank. Remove access panel under the accumulator, this requires removing the rocker panel for access to 2 of the bolts. On the 77 I just did, the tube nut connecting it to the evaporator was corroded badly so I split the accumulator nut with a cut off wheel in order to salvage the evap tube. I used a universal accumulator/dryer with the adapter tube, the fit was good.
Thanks for offer of the used one. Mine actually looks better but once they are used and off the car, they are expired.
Anyone else have experiences with a universal vs. a model specific one any tips for replacing one on a 1979 and 80?
