Default MSD 8572 Ignition System

I've been looking at what's required to change my 70 L46 over to an MSD system. I understand the components required but my question is, can all the original shielding be used as I would like to retain the original appearance.

As long as the new dist fits under it sure…..)
If you have ground shielded ignition wires and you change to an HEI setup you will have to
cut off the ends of the wired that attach to the cap..or buy new wires with the shielding on them….they make a nice tool that takes care of it easy.

oops…cut off the ends of the ign wires that attach to the cap and change them to the HEI kind….point wires go into the cap holes..and HEI ones go on the outside on top.

Yep, I agree but to find out is a bit of an expensive exercise! I was hoping to hear from someone with a 68-70 that had installed a MSD ignition system and retained the original stock look by still using the flash chromed shielding. MSD recommends their 8572 distributor and 31599 plug wires. The distributor has an umbrella type of wire retainer on top so I was wondering about it's fit into the chrome shielding plus the plug wires are 8mm and look like a tight fit ... anyone had any experience with this set-up?

Default I used to have the chrome flashing on my 68

...with the MSD 8572, when I had my carbureted engine. Fits fine with round coil.

You're going to need an ignition box and a place to put that also.

I ended up converting my 68 to an electronic tach when I installed the RamJet 350, and when I put in my EZ-EFI 2.0 I ended up locking out the MSD-8572 to use with the EZ-EFI......so I'm not using the chrome flashing nowadays.

I don't know about the dist cap with the male terminals since when I was using mine it had the female terminals.
