Default alignment spec?

Hey everyone,

Just wrapping up the rear suspension on my 77, and was wondering what people are running for specs both front and rear. The car is a street car, and almost my DD (with a 70mi round trip commute)... but I would like to hit an autocross course from time to time. I don't expect to be competitive, I just want to have fun throwing it around. So anyone have any suggestions?

I know my AIM has alignment specs. I would consult the one for your year. Mine is a 71. Maybe someone with a 77 can take a pic of the sheet for you.

Here's what the experts recommend for the street. I think they all would recommend more castor if you have offset A-arms.

Does tire size affect theses specs and who's specs are good for handling, high speed, tire wear, ect???
Not to steel this thread but I'll be getting my car done front and rear. I'm nervous the alignment tech is going to be a 20 year old kid with no knowledge of these old tech vettes. I want to give him numbers and say ,"set it to this spec!"

A rookie guess is that wider tires affect the camber settings/the alignment tech had better know how to compensate....

But I do know that a good carpenter's level that has been cut to the correct length so that it will lay flat against the rim vertically without contacting the sidewall of the tire is very helpful in adjusting the camber on the front and rear wheels (I have 30,000 miles on my '34 street truck tires with NO unusual wear on the inner or outer tread...I set the camber with the modified carpenter's level per instructions/advice in the Forum Technical threads)

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Looking at my original post I suppose I could have given a little more detail.... I have:

Stock springs front/rear
poly bushings
KYB shocks (currant budget didn't allow for Bilstiens)
no spreader bar yet (probably the next upgrade)
255/50 r17 at all four corners

Like I said, I put a lot of miles on so tire wear is a concern for me as well. Also, I have yet to drive it with the new bushings, shocks, and new 17in wheels. So even with stock settings I think it is going to feel like a completely different animal.

Non of the parts I have are 'hard core', but I'll compare the posted settings (kind of leaning towards VBP's 'advanced street... but we'll see!)

I see your point. I did go to a wide tire 255-60-15 BFG and experienced faster wear on the inside of all the tires but now the rear just went bald within a 100 miles because the rear trailing arm bushings are shot.
Thanks for the reply
