Default Do these engine numbers look legit?

Hello all.

I just picked up a new project. Its a '77 C3. Im new to corvette resto's so i know i have alot of reading to do. I am trying to find out if my car is "numbers" matching or not before i make any engine/trans decisions.

The numbers seem to match on the engine but they look sketchy to me.

The VIN isn't the same size as the other stamping, its tilted, and it looks like the punch bounced a few times. Typical? Fake looking? The seller I got the car off had no idea about the history or if anything was original.

On the trans I am sure its not NM. On the side I found 17B418666. Is there any info to be learned from this number? The trans is spent and my end up just as a core trade in if its nothing special.

Thanks.

what is the last letter after the "CL" ? Then look at the chart does the engine code and transmission match what you have, l48, l82, auto, manual. The serial number looks very strange.

Its an A. It matches the L48 and its an auto.

I am questioning the VIN punch more then anything. Should it look like the other punching or is the messy punch typical?

Pad looks legit to me. Seeing a bounce stamp like the VIN is not rare at all.
