Ok. Here's my problem. Installed Borgeson steering box and had the front end rebuilt and aligned twice. The second alignment confirmed that the first one was correct to factory specs. The car feels totally disconnected from the steering wheel and feels unsafe to drive. When I collapsed the steering column, I went too far and had to pull it back out. Any chance that is causing play in the column? Not quite sure how the colapasable system works. Can't drive the car as is. Help!

As long as the set screws on the nuts near the rag joint are tight you should be fine. I pulled the column back out a little bit too and I have no such problem- that really isn't relevant to your problem. Have you described the situation to a tech at Borgeson? They have great support there, so give them a call if you haven't already.

can you post the final numbers for the alignment? I am curious where the car ended up.

I bought a replacement column on Ebay and the guy who sold it to me collapsed the column to facilitate shipping. I just pulled it back out again to the correct length. Not an issue.

Sounds to me like the rag joint is loose. If there was nothing wrong with your steering column before, then it's unlikely to be faulty now. I would follow Les's advice and call Borgeson on 860 482 8283, ask for Jeff. He is a walking encyclopaedia on steering parts.

Something is loose in your car and I doubt it's the Borgeson steering box.

Regards from Down Under.
