Default Tall Block?

Hi I'm looking at an Edelbrock Torker II for my 70/73 block/body 454. Mfg website says the application is good, but also says it will not fit 'Tall Block'..... Just wondering what they mean by that? Will I have to change air cleaner or something?

Thanks

Tall Block indicates a truck engine. What is the casting number for your block?

just to help clarify this it does not mean a pick-up truck engine. Truck means medium to heavy duty. A standard block is 9.8 and a tall deck or truck block is 10.2 deck height. Height difference is easily seen with the water pump still mounted and the difference of .400 in deck height.
All intakes will fit either you would just need spacer plates for the tall decks. Tall decks also use a longer distributor. Heads are also inter changeable

Chevy only made the tall deck 10.2 block in 366 and 427 cubic inches they were never put in passenger cars or pickup trucks. So if you have a 454 its standard 9.80 deck. The water pump mounted on your 454 top edge of your water pump will be even with the deck. if you had a tall deck block you can see 4 tenths of an inch height above the top of the water pump. The chances that someone put a tall deck in your car is a very slim chance.

We have two 427 tall decks back in my shop and the intake that will fit it, without the spacers, costs over $500 last time we checked.

The 572 BBC is based off the tall Deck block but you'll rarely find the tall deck truck motors anymore. Another way to tell is they had 3 compression rings on their pistons.

Thank you all. I have the 3963512 cast number, it was a warranty replacement so a serial number stamp of CE077850. I will verify that the water pump is flush at the top of the block, as being a warranty exchange block, there is some uncertainty, but with the 512 casting it's definitely a 454 from 1970. My current intake is from the 73 275 hp variety according to its cast number.

I stumbled across the Torker II, are there other good intakes that will help me get that 70 454 block up to its full potential?
Planning on doing a rebuild a few years down the road, but the intake is within my current financial and mechanical capabilities.

Thanks

S

So my PO replaced the waterpump, it's well over 1" shorter than the top of block. Looks like I'm going to have to add that to list as well, the hose off the top of pump has a pretty restrictive fold in it as a result. So, as Little Mouse shared above, no 454 tall blocks, so it looks like I'm in the clear. There is a slim possibility that I have a 427, is there any way to see the weights on the HB without pulling the pulley and the HB itself? Are they visible or 'feelable' behind the crank pulley?
