Ok new diy. Limited car knowledge. 1979 Vette. All stock. Ca emissions compliant. Car runs horrible until 220 temp. Feels lilke it is missing. Then at. 220, runs beautiful. Watched a youtube video. Distributor replacment. Was for a 70's Nova. Guy stated his distributor was bad. He pushed on the advance weights or arms. When open. He was able to rock them up and down by like 3/8ths of an inch. Mine does that too. Is that a good indication my distributor is worn out? If so what is a good stock replacment. I only want stock.
if high temperatures causes the car to run better I would say your problem is not the distributor. Is the problem only at idle or at all speeds? When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Fuel filter was last week. Old one still looked good. Car has those wonderful vacuum switches. All new but was also thinking they operate when the car is hot so maybe this is a factor. Confused!
do you have the factory Chasis Service Manual, section on emission controls. See if the EGR valve is controlled by a thermostatic temperature switch which may have failed.

It is and both are new. Wondering if I have a small leak in the head gasket. No coolant in oil. No white smoke from exhaust except a little on start up and stops quickly. I do sometimes see a few drops of water from exhaust as well on start up on occasion as well. But also stops quickly. Still thinking distributor??
Did someone run the vacuum advance hose through one of those efe vacuum switches?
From the distributor the line runs to a spark delay valve then connects to the tvs switch. At the opposite end of the spark delay valve it then runs to the carb. I set it up as per the assembly manual. Unfortunately in California I am stuck with this crap forever.
