Default AC/Heater control - stuck making this thing work...please help

Ordered a new control unit, and new hoses.

used the instructions from Willcox: http://willcoxcorvette.com/instructi...82_secured.pdf

I had to use the hand held vacuum pump to figure out which port is #1 (thank you GM for not numbering them on the unit). I have my test hose hooked up to #1:

I verified that when the unit is OFF, I get a seal on port #1. I do not get it on any others.

according to this chart on the instructions, I should get the same results if I put it on Heater:

But I do not. I tried hooking it up to the heater/AC box and I cannot get the heater or defroster doors to move at all.

Anyone know of a better resource or have some guidance they can share? I am not putting this back in until I know it works.

thanks in advance!

Pat

The connector only goes on one way so no way to connect it wrong. Why not just connect it and see if the doors do what they should do to test it?

Are you talking about the sort of clear rubber connector? Mine died. I am hooking the hoses directly to the ports.

I had all the hoses hooked up in the car to their respective doors, and they didnt work. I could make them work when hooking the vacuum pump directly to them, so the issue has to be in the control unit.

I thought the rubber connector would go on as it is supposed to and you are just looking to change the valve. It does only go on one way. Is there enough left to let you which one goes where?

Are you going to run independent lines to the actuators? Might be the best idea.

What year car is it?

Since you have the hand held vac pump maybe try to connect directly to the line going to the actuator from the switch to get the doors to move. Maybe the actuators are frozen? Maybe try to connect to the actuator directly? I think you can get the passenger side kick panel one fairly easily.

Yeah, in my frustration I failed to provide the most basic info....

1980, interior is gutted and the AC/heater box is on the worktable. Before I took it off you could hear the fan sort of making noise but nothing ever came out. When I tore it apart, I found the normal leaves, loose change, wasp nest, etc. Cleaned it all out and started to hand test each actuator (to try to understand the functions). I got each one to work independently on the pump, so I know they are good. Then I reran the hoses to each and tried to test the control unit. I got the OA valve/recirc air valve to move, but I cannot get the heater or defroster doors to move when I set the control to either.

I am running the hoses directly to the control unit. With the old rubber hose holder, the #2 port seemed capped off so I capped it as well. There are no real instructions on what to do with that port.

thanks
