I don't get to travel around much, so if I had to pick one show a year to go to for the best cars, vendors, and swap meet, where should I go. I am sure everybody has their favorites, but why? I expect Bloomington or Carlisle will be popular, but I have been suprised before.
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (vethead)
I really enjoy the Bloomington Gold show, it is geared more towards stock corvettes. I would also say that the Corvettes at Carlisle is a must see as well.
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (vethead)
If you guys are ever in the mood to go for a long cruise. You should try the show at Wasaga beach in Canada about an hour north of
Toronto. It's very unique because the vettes are on beach front where they look hot and there's plenty of them. Typically a few hundred depending on the weather troughout the weekend. And it's coming in August.
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (SBR)
IT was my first time at Bloomington Gold this year in St. Charles, illinois. I found it to be a very big disappointment from all the hype i had heard in previous years.
I believe the absolute best 'fun' type weekend show is at Mid AMericas FUNFEST in Effingham ,Illinois. It has everything except the swapmeet for used parts. My favorite there so far...was in 2000 when he rented a complete carnival with live music , free rides, giveaways, etc.... ITs really something to see over 6000 Corvettes all lined up on his big property . The people are very nice , and Mid AMerica goes all out .
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (vethead)
Bloomington Gold -- No doubt about it! I met Zora Duntov and Larry Shinoda there in '92. I met Dale Earnhardt and Reggie Jackson at the Auction several years ago. This year I met John DeLorenzo and John Fitch.
They have had the best Special Collections-- Corvette Evolution, Earthquake '88 -- showcasing L88s. I have seen noteworthy Vettes like '53 number 3, the Motorama Show car (the first Corvette), ZL-1, all five Grand Sports, Stingray racer, the SS, SR2s, and various famous racing vettes.
Years ago, it was a toss up between Corvettes@Carlisle and Bloomington Gold, but at this point in time, Corvettes@Carlisle is certainly superior (especially from a vendor/parts standpoint).
As Chuck stated, it's right around the corner too...
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (vethead)
For sheer numbers and variety Corvettes @ Carlisle. Usually about 6,000 or 7,000 COrvettes in one place and hundreds of vendors. For original and factory correct--Bloomington Gold.
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (vethead)
I have to say Carlisle as well!!! Been to just about all the major shows here in the East and Carlisle continues to bring me back every year!! You really can't go wrong with any of the "major" shows listed in the posts above, but in my opinion, Carlisle is overall the best!!!
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (thejaf)
Mike Yager's MidAmerica Funfest is the best one for cars that don't just sit all year and are rarely driven. It's just fun. None of that prissy original this and incorrect number that. Just drive 'um and show 'um.
Re: Which is the absolute best Corvette Show? (Casper)
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like Carlisle is the preferred show. It would be for me, it seems. I like the shows that have a lot of drivers and not just show pieces. I respect them all, but I respect the guy who can drive it daily and keep it looking sharp the most. Mid Americas sounds good too.
