255/40/19
I found a slightly used set of wheels with 285/35/19 on the rear and 255/40/19 on the front. Are the 255/40/19's too wide for the front of a C3? (81) The 285's may need some work to fit but that's expected but if the fronts won't fit then I'll go a different direction. Thanks!

Depends on the backspace of the wheel. Compare the tire size to a 255/60/15. I use Tire Rack to compare sizes....

Thanks DD, I use Tire rack too. I will have to use adapters to mount these wheels so my question is will a 255/40/19 tuck inside my front fender and not hit the frame on lock to lock turns? Thanks!

Since you are using spacers, as long as you set the right backspacing you should be fine...assuming an 8" or 9" wheel. if your wheel is more than 9" it might be too wide to fit.
