Well last week I picked up my new 1976 red stingray. It has 39k miles and a new l82 built. Drove it home two hours and parked it. Ive been debating on doing a weiand 142 etch but here it is. Final decision on build. I ran into a big raise at work and income is flowing nicely soooo
Lq9 cam
F-body oil pan
motor mounts (adjustable or fixed)
closed loop ECU wiring plug n play
Msd fuel system
F-body motor accessories
Dewitts custom radiator
lsx swap headers
I have a guy who does lsx swaps for a living and builds them helping me. (same guy who had the spare LSx sitting around brand new)
the motor and transmission come out Sunday. We also start building the 6.0 also on Sunday. This will have tons of pics.

Nice. I'm more of a tradition small and big block for my vette. But what your doing is the way to go if your into that. Power, fuel economy and longevity. Add forged pistons, a supercharger and the right cam and it will scream good luck and you know the rule, updates with out photos didn't happen.
If you're upgrading the cam, you'll want an LS6 intake.
I'm running an LQ9 in my 68 with an LS1 intake and stock cam. But I suspect the intake is at it's limits at around 350-400hp.

For me the deal would be we swap the engines the exact same day. That way I keep driving until he delivers the running product. Not to say there will be a delay but there can be and you are then not driving your car.
Thanks for doing the write up, will be nice to see!
I support the swap but as mentioned, not the intake. They are a little taxed at 400hp, though thats at the wheels. For simplicity to get it going though it is ok I guess. The fast 92 would be a "direct" ls1/6 swap minus the tb, a 102LSXr or even better the 102LSXrt would be best for a 6.0 thats cammed with decent heads. Maybe I missed it, but what heads are you using? Nevermind, see its the lq9. If they need freshened Advanced Inductions has great programs for stock heads, and do chamber welding to bump compression for very cheap. I believe they are basically ls6 castings with bigger chambers.
Sure your buddy knows this but dont be afraid of a healthy cam, its not quite like a sbc in that regard especially with a 6.0 and some compression. Ls1tech is a great site to do research for anything ls in general.
I have decided after talking with him that I will run just a stock lq9 cam with the ls1 intake. Also using a msd inline fuel pump and a regulator to keep it simple. I want to get it purring like a kitten before I do cam heads etc.
Also all parts he brings me are BRAND NEW
it will be far from running Sunday. I'll need radiator from DeWitt, flywheel adaptor, f-body oil pan and full accessories, wiring harness, etc
My plan was cam, L92 or LS3 heads and intake. But after running the Stock heads/cam with a Richmond 6 speed, I realized it would overpower my stock tires pretty easily. You'll be happy with the stock power especially after running a SBC.
I wouldn't suggest raising the compression any if you're having head work done. On hot days, driving hard, you can feel the spark retard once the knock sensor pick up pinging.

Exactly. The power is gonna be plenty for a weekend show car. Also what head work on a new lq9 head would need to get done to run these expensive as hell rollers i got for free. Aluminum 1.7 ls roller rockers.

Nothing, the 317 heads flow really well and your cam (LS1 cam) would be restricting hp anyway.

Never enough power. My LS 3 will be over 500 NA HP and I have only driven it around the block. Gobs of power but already thinking of a maggy supercharger
Have to get it on the road first but yes the LS motors put out gobs of torque.
Forced induction is so full of headaches but so worth it lol ill be using a f-body for all accessories and oil pan. I have the motor all figured out. Ill be running the msd fuel set up with corvette regulator. Painless is doing my wire harness. Its pretty much plug n play from there. My guy is getting the lsx adaptor to th350 for me. Motor mount adapter plates are ordered. The only part i havent figured out yet is throttle body. Its my understanding ill want drive by wire?

I am running drive by wire. Just using the C6 pedal assembly that can be found anywhere. Using the stock LS 3 throttle body. Easy to fab up.
