78 Pace Car…..
My Power Window quit. Both at the same time. I have checked all the fuses. They are good. So it must be the relay. I can’t get in there just removing the ashtray.
So my questions are: What’s involved in removing the console cover (Automatic) and once I get to the relay is there a way to test it, or do I just have to replace it?
(I don’t have my assembly manual yet.)
I am looking at the wiring diagram and I don't see that a relay was used. A pink wire supplies power to both power window switches. Then the wiring goes direct to each motor. To get at the switches you need to remove the carpeted side panels on the console. There are three screws on each side. (personaly I would remove the seat to get at the rear one and have easier access to the switches, but you can fight around it if you want to). You can remove the switches without removing the console plate. Two 1/4" head screws hold each switch in.
That curcuit is not protected by a fuse but by a curcuit breaker. It is in the fuse box about a 1/3 of the way up on the right side, just above the turn signal flasher.

Pete,
I’m just going by this picture posted by Tunedport78.
If the fuse is good (And mine is not in the same location as yours, I only have one 30 Amp circuit breaker and it is in the upper left side of the fuse panel) and everything else works the only thing left would be the motors or switches, and I doubt that both would go at the same time. But I don’t have anything to go by so I’m grasping, and hoping I don’t have to pull out the console.
Thanks for the reply.

My correction. I was looking at a 79 wiring diagram. Digging in farther I realize that they did use a relay through 78. On a 78 the 30 amp breaker is for the power windows. There is also a 10 amp fuse for the relay. It is the same fuse as the guages. (third up on the right side)
You should be able to get to the relay by taking off the right carpeted console side board as I mentioned earlier.
