Default What would happen

Just bought this car (1970 350/350 4spd with AC) a month ago. Still trying to map out where some of the disconnected wires go. This one has me concerned. It has a bypass jumper and I am worried what would happen if I remove the jumper and put the 2 connecters back together. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I have the service manual but nothing clear on what these wire do.

Looks like the connector for the wiper lockout (stops the wipers working until the wiper door is opened) Do you have the stock hood and wiper door fitted? If you have a later hood and no wiper door this would explain the switch being bypassed. The lockout switch is on the bracket under the rod in your top pic.

Still has everything stock. Everything is still matching #'s believe it or not. The wiper door will come up but the wipers will not turn on. I would love to just connect the 2 plugs but electrical scares me a little. Not knowing what this prior owner did I could fry something somewhere else. Just need the courage to give it shot.

I saw the diagram that Willcox Corvette posted and it shows a vacuum diaphragm on the passenger side under the wheel well. Mine is there but its broken and there are no vacuum lines going to it. I also noticed the plug going into the Wiper motor is attached but you can move it in and out inside the motor itself about 1/4 inch. This cannot be good. I also have to figure out how to test the motor by just applying power (with the battery disconnected) to see if the motor will turn on independent of everything else. These are all challenges for this weekend. If anyone has ideas/pictures or suggestion it would be greatly appreciated. Real pictures tell a better story. In the mean time I will keep searching the archives.

PS.... This forum is amazing. I have found so much in such a short period of time and everyone acts like family and helps Just GREAT.

Willcox site has instructions for testing the wiper motor on the car or the bench. If things are looking as dodgy as you say they are it would be a good idea to disconnect the wiper arm from the wiper motor before doing any testing. You say the vacuum switch on the passenger side is broken, how is the wiper door being controlled? If you are not comfortable testing the wiring it might be a good idea to find someone to help you.

That connection is to the safety switch that prevents the wipers from operating when the wiper door is closed. It should be connected and the switch tested. As to the wipers not operating, did you check the override switch under the steering column?
