Do I need a cam button?
I've read some posts about using a cam button to prevent the cam from "walking" into the timing cover. In Jegs & Summit the description in the catalog is listed for "roller" cams only. :confused:
Mine is a flat tappet solid. Do I need one?

You only need a cam buttom on roller cams. The lobes on non-roller cams have a slight taper ground into then that helps to spin the lifter in the bore and force the cam to the rear of the block. Roller lifters can not spin in the bore so roller cams do not have the taper, so they need a button to hold them tight to the block.

Len,,put some assembly lube on the back of the upper timimg gear where it meets the block. When you get the timing cover on then is a good time to flip the motor over and preoil the chain before putting the pan on. Then you can put the lifters in and the heads on ect. Don't forget to put the oil pump drive in before the oil pump! Will save pulling the pan off later.
