need help i have been trying to replace the ignition lock cylinder in my 79 for a week and rented two different pullers but none seem to have the right bolts with the correct threads to really thread into the column...... has one done this job before and can point me in the right direction, thanks in advance

You know there's a little spring loaded tab that has to be depressed and the ign slides out easily.
Look at your new cylinder and you'll see the tab at the bottom. Then look closely inside the column about where that tab would sit. In many cases the aluminum casting is covering the hole. So you have to take a small punch and chip the casting away. Then take a screw driver and push the tab in and pull the cylinder .
Yes and move a few other things. Check YouTube for GM ign lock cylinder and they'll show you how to do it. The hardest part is getting the retainer clip back on. I put the nut on the shaft to pull it out as I push the clip in place with a screw driver when re installing.
You could force a screw into the lock cylinder and rip it out with a slide hammer but it might crack the column. I won't lie, tearing into the column guts is a bitch to keep track of everything and not breaking anything either.
