Default Headlight Ground wire?

Okay my 77 vette headlights suddenly stopped working. I check the fuse and it is good. headlight come up (slowly of course).

I purchased a new headlight switch from ECKLERS... my understanding is it is a difficult job to replace this because you need to remove the dash. Any help here would be great.

Anyway I wanted to check the ground wire for headlights... can somebody tell me where it is located before I rip into my dash? All my other lights work.

I am guessing it could be the headlight ground wire being I hit a bump in the road and they flicker on and off... and then just went off.

Thanks!

Why not stick a voltmeter on the headlight plug and see if you are getting 12 volts there? That will at least give you an idea which side of the circuit the issue is on...

should be a connector on the left side fender, that connects main harness to the front headlight harness.

The forward lamp harness grounds on the radiator support out under the nose. Usually a black wire with a ring connector held in place with a sheet metal screw.

The main dash harness grounds on the driver's hinge post behind the dash.

You can check forward lamp without tearing the dash apart.

i don't know how it works on a 77, but on my 69 there is a ground for the headlights on the back of the alternator. it is the number ten black wire. the crimp connector on mine broke at that point and the lights would flicker or not come on at all with the engine running. it took a while to find it because that wire is held with the metal bracket behind the alternator. try wiggling that wire at the connector to see if it affects the lights. that is assuming the 77 has that wire.

That maybe true on the stock L48... however I am running a LSx motor now.
