The stud for adjusting the pump is broke. It looks like it has a Nut welded on there and the stud coming out of it. Can the nut be removed and replaced? Is it welded on? Why is this pump so damn heavy???????? I am pulling the pump and will post a pic in a few minutes......... Are there any later model plastic pumps that will bolt in and save some pounds?????
one had a reservoir resembling the top of a jug (its a plastic jug extension that plugs into the pump...
the other pump is shaped like a ham can kinda (dewdrop) and the reservoir is all metal 1 peice... the pump has an o ring and goes into the reservoir.......
the jug one is better in my opinion cuase its easier to access the cap.... its more angled...
Got the pump/bracket out. The bracket has a crack in it and the stud was broken. I don't know how the belt stayed on. Easy fix but I am looking at other options. I have been checking out the circle track stuff. They have a small pump with remote resivoir (sp) that looks like it would save a bunch of weight and make adding fluid easier. It is listed as a small block pump. I see that the small block corvette pump has the same part number as the BB pump so, in my mind, this coversion should work.
As a "general" rule, the "ham can" style (good description :) ) was used for small block applications and the "jug" style was used for big blocks. I'm not familiar with a plastic "jug" style. The OEM ones were all metal, like the ham can style. They will interchange. Why 2 different styles? Don't know. Both are a PIA to add fluid to. Chuck
The bracket looks like it is more than cracked. It is repairable but do I really want to? The stud came out easily (thanks daily driver).
I am thinking about removing the power steering setup all together and try that out for awhile. Lots of weight to be saved there. Also, the money$$$ made from selling all those pieces could fund some nice speed parts......
