I recently bought a 72 vert. I am redoing the stereo. It already had an after market tape deck(pretty fancy!). I pulled the dash apart on the passenger side... Anybody have any idea what the silver box is on the left?
It has a cable with a like 8 pins in a circle that isnt connected to anything. Im wondering if I should get that taken care of before I put everything back together...
Any idea what the one on the right is for?
Thanks

Without knowimg more about the whole sound system, I can't be sure, but those black splines on each of the boxes are for heat dissipation. Usually this is necessary in amplifiers, power boosters, and the like. If the stereo system was really high speed the previous owner could've had one power booster for the rear and one for the front speakers due to impedance matching issues.
You've hit the Jackpot! You have a stereo radio. The standard Vette radio has the external heat sinkers transistor to the right, the second box is the stereo multiplexer. Make sure you run 10 ohm speakers if you decide to keep it. Wilcox Corvette has them.
