Oh... one more reliability issue on the C2/C3 Vettes, also related to the rear end: The stub axles sticking out of the rear differential have a nasty tendency to chew themselves up on the thrust surface inside the rear differential. This results in excessive play (in-and-out) of these axle shafts, and rear wheel alignment becomes erratic. ...

Just so that you know, the road departments do NOT use salt on roads in Colorado. They use pea gravel without salt. You will not find salt used on any Colorado roads. That said, you will be lucky to make it through a winter without needing a new windshield due to the pea gravel being thrown up by fellow cars on the road.
