Default Installing coolant shut off valves, one or two?

Have changed the heater control valve but the air coming out of
the vents is still a bit warmer than outside air. So am planning to
install a water shut off valve. Was wondering if one should be
installed above the factory valve? Or would it be better to install
one on the return side to prevent heat from traveling down the
heater hose? Or should both valves be installed?

I installed 2 with the same thought you had, to prevent hot water backflow. I took the original out and plugged the vacuum line.
It didn't eliminate the hot air coming out of the vents completely. But at least I know the AC is competing against a hot heater core.

Install one in the supply line. You can install one in the return line but I would not close it. My Corvette's previous owner had two valves installed and I only close the supply valve. If both valves are closes then the heater coil will have no "breathing space". If the water heats up too much in the trapped area between the valves the heater coil could be overpressurized and cause of leak in the coil. Not a high probability of this happening I beleive but I sure would hate to have to change the heater coil.

Thanks for your response. Had not thought about the
possibility of the water expanding. Will only install the
one.
