I'm reinstalling a new shift cable on my 81. I didnt take this apart so bear with me. Does the bracket for the shift cable go to the rear of the pan starting at the corner or the one in front?
I think it was in the middle, not the corner. Just put the shifter in park and the trans in park. Hook the cable on and wherever the bracket lands, use those pan bolts.
Thx. When reinstalling cable. do you start at tranny or shifter and work back?
I think the PO(bubba) really had no clue what he was doing. I tracked the detent cable back to the transmission but it goes in a hole on the top of the trans on the PS. I thought the cable attached to the backside pin on the tranny linkage.
Tottally lost here....
after much research I found E clips at Napa. Still cant figure out how the cable connects to the transmission. Can someone post a pic of the bracket needed?
Ok
Went to trans shop to find out what is missing from trans shift bracket. Shop says easier to replace w all new brackets. They claim that the 81 has A rod/ linkage that attaches to shift bracket that locks/unlocks ignition when in park.
Can someone verify for me before i buy brackets I don't need
