My ex-wife called me up on the weekend to tell me that one of her neighbours (our neighbours when we were still married and living together)
gave his 1980 - 4-speed Vette to the Salvation Army.... :( :( :(. I knew the car and it needed a LOT of TLC but it was running and driving.... If I would have known that they would give away the car - I would have given them $1000 - $1500 for it... What a shame....
They probably got a larger tax writeoff than they could have sold the car for.
I don't think that it will save them $1500 in taxes... I would have even paid up to $2k. The car had a good frame and engine. There were some problems with the shifter linkage but the transmission was ok. The interior was worn (carpet, seats) but the dash looked ok (exept one crack). The car had CRAGAR Chrome spoke wheels. However - they were pretty rusted :( :( :(.
Check the blue book value of the car in fair condition and then multiply by .3 to get an estimate of their tax savings. I believe you get a tax deduction which might even get them down in a lower tax bracket if they are on the borderline. Hopefully it will end up in a good home.

I will actually check with the "Salvation Army" location they gave the car to to see what they want for the car... If it's less than $3k I might think in getting the car...
I hope that it didn't sell so far... This would be a nice project... I can do the interior (exept the seat covers which I would have to get done), have my mechanic fix the shifter linkage, clean the car and get a inexpensive paint job..... Well - I first have to locate the Vette...
Re: A C3 for the Salvation Army!!!!!!! (GrandSportC3)
Definitely go check with them and see if they still have it. I'm positive the Army would love to have your money instead of the Vette (unless there's someone there that's eyeing it :) )
