3 weeks ago after a 1 hour drive stopped for lunch came back to car turned key and nothing not a click, nothing. Moved shifter from park to drive and back car starts right up.
last week did the same thing at Walmart moved shifter again to drive back to park and started fine.
Saturday happened again but the ol move to drive and back trick didnt work. All the other electrical stuff would work but no sound from starter. After 5 minutes I found a wrench long enough to tap starter while wife turned key and its started fine and started fine ever since. Starter has never dragged or acted weak its either all or nothing.
I'm running LT headers that are really close to the starter. I'm gonna go with a new mini starter and heat wrap it. Unless someone has a better solution.
Your shifting cable may be doing the grounding...You're probably confronted with a bad ground issue....best advice is to replace all the battery cables with some good quality brands......Your starter and battery are ok so put the money on the cables....The ground from the battery to the frame under the battery box is where to start...
{ie}...those over heated starters are just bench racers BS....
I've got a 700r4 scheduled for install next week. I'll have those guys go over my grounds/cables. Its started fine for almost a week now. I think its waiting for the right moment to leave me stranded

Thanks for all the good advice.
Perfect time to replace your positive cable when your transmission is out of the car. The cable runs along the top of the trans tunnel and is nearly impossible to change if the transmission is in place.
