Hi All,
Anyone buy one of these for a SBC? I've got all kinds of problems and it seems like a good deal with the lifetime warranty. Maybe too good?
I've gone through 2 high priced mini starters in the last 4 years and I'm looking to get something that will last for me. I have 2 other threads on starters out there recently, but thought I would ask about this seller...
I do not have any experience with that starter, but I did buy one of their $50 HEI distributors with a lifetime warranty.
The module needed to be replaced. I called up and a very nice woman answered, looked me up and asked if I needed the whole distributor or if I thought the module would do it? It was a very smooth process and the unit is working fine.
I would buy from them again and that price seems real good.
Bought a $60 mini starter from a guy at Pomona Swap meet 12 yrs ago that made them. Figured it would get me on the road til I got something better. 3 motors later its still in...gear is finally starting to wear some.
Same with a CAT $60 hi flow water pump. Takes rpm all day waiting for it to go but it doesnt.
I have had one of these on my 383 for 4 years and zero problems.

i have a hitachi starter that was less money and less flashy. it is holding up fine and spins my engine with enthusiasm. i see nothing wrong with it.
The Hitachi plant was damaged in the sunami and they are not currently producing these starters anymore. Check the ads carefully, they mostly say "Hitachi style". Good design, unkown parts.
OP, can you buy this starter locally? This might be advantages if you ever do have a warranty problem.

mine is pre tsunami , I'm a fan of mail order only if you don't have a good relationship with a local business. most mail order companies are less of a battle with returns than some locals. I'm lucky i deal with a great local guy who tries hard to do the right thing.and goes the extra mile.
I just replaced a red china one identical to the one skip sells...with this one. I haven't installed it yet but I had no luck myeslf with two of the red ones from two different sellers.. chipped the gear on the first and the second came with bent bolts and I couldnt shim it to work correctly. I noticed they improved the gear on the second one I ordered a year later than the first. It was chewing up my flywheel... I know they work, I just couldn't get it to work in my car.
