hey, I just brought my car in to get a quote on a new paint job. At the moment it has the original paint still. The guy said the paint was cracking and stuff on the hot spots (which I could see) so he said to do it properly the car would have to be totally stripped and then repainted. He quoted me around $4,000 minimum. (Canadian $$$).
Right now the paint is a metallic blue, but it's really dull, sometimes it looks like a dull black. Does anyone have any pictures of a newly painted metallic blue paint job? I'm debating whether or not to keep the same color when I have the money to repaint it. I'd love to go with black paint. I don't think the black would clash with the dark blue interior. On the other hand, I'd like to keep it metallic blue too, to keep it original. But I can't picture what metallic blue looks like newly done, so I need some pics.
The first Corvette I owned was a 79 Dark Blue with blue cloth interior. I lost all the pictures of it but I can tell you I got a lot of compliments on the color. It is a very good color when it is fresh and shining.
Don't have no pics handy, but dark blue is an awesome color. I have seen several dark blue 79's, and love the color. So dark it's almost black. I seen a nice one at the 50th kickoff, except it was two-tone light/dark blue. So I'd paint it back that color. I'll try to look for some pics....I know I got some, but don't know where
Thanks, I'd love some pics. I've seen alot of black ones and they look s0o0 nice in my opinion. Blue could look good too though, but I'd need to see some good pics before I'm convinced of that.
If you paint your car it won't be original even if its the exact same color. You repainted it so it isn't original.
Thanks for that, that's what I figured. I was talking to a guy in my town that rebuilds corvettes and he suggested I kept it the same color. He said it'd be worth more the same color than if I painted it black or something.
You're right about black showing all imperfections too. The thing is, I have a dark blue cloth interior, which is in good shape. I'd like to keep it if possible. I don't want to paint the exterior to some color and have it clash with the interior.
this is coming from a body/paint guy. go to a detail (or body) shop and say you want the car wetsanded and buffed. if that car still has laquer paint on it, the car will shine for ever as long as you keep care of it.

Yeah, I was thinking about that...but I noticed on the hotspots and espcially on the back where the gas tank is the paint is starting to crack. (little lines and stuff are coming through). I'm not sure how much longer the paint will last if I do that.
Paint the car whatever color you prefer. It's your car and when it comes time to sell it....it won't make a Canadian dimes worth of difference what color it is.
