Eric Weingartner of Weingartner Racing is building me a 4.5 x 3.75 BBC, he will be using in the EMC 2014 challenge. His complete build is on the Chevelle Forum. The engine will eventually go in my 1968 Coupe as a modernized L88.
The engine is going to the competition with a carb but will get efi later. Im hoping for hp in the 700-800 range. The engine goes to the dyno this weekend and the EMC Challenge is next month.
There is generally no high dollar parts in the motor other than the light weight callies crankshaft. Eric ported a set of afr 305 heads, added bigger valves and heavily ported a couple of intake manifolds testing.
Im very excited about the project as I always wanted a big bore short stroke motor for a modernized L88. The car will have an SRIII chassis and T56 Magnum with Baer 6P brakes.

Mopar engines are built on the same bases. Big bore, short stroke is great for screaming big blocks. It also un shrouds the valves. You're gonna have fun with that bad boy, just don't get carried away. The redline is the redline. When they blow, usually nothing survives!

Having owned several RB series Mopars I can tell you they don't....scream! I remember back in the 70's going for my 1st ride in a buddies 69 L-89 SS Nova now.....that there was a screaming big block motor.....faster than my 440 SixPack. To the OP.....good luck at the EMC competition.
I have a similar project in the works, will be watching this one closely! Your 700 - 800hp goal should be attainable and retain street manners. I saw on TC that Eric is using a stock length rod to keep piston speed up. Makes for a heavier piston, but Eric knows what he's doing, I'm sure he has it figured out. I wanted to go for the longest rod I could while still having pistons bigger than hockey pucks, it's either a 6.7" with 1.1" pin or 6.635 with a shelf-type 1.245"/1/270" pin height, haven't figured it out yet.
Good luck, thanks for sharing the build. Should be an incredible engine that'll pull into the stratosphere without uncontrollable tow truck torque on the bottom end.
I think Eric is using 6.25 inch SBC rods. The engine will scored by the displacement, and the hp and tq from 3000-6500 rpm. Rather than compare this motor to a Mopar, it is really a bored out 427 with the same stroke.
I am very happy with the dyno results. There may be some more tweaking prior to the competition next month. There is nothing high $$$ or exotic in this motor, other than a lot of effort and expertise by Eric Weingartner. Remember this engine is set up for 3000-6500 rpm for the competition.
