Default Help with part list for 82 crate engine

So I think I have decided on the 260hp crate from GM to replace my blown motor in my 82 instead of rebuilding. For all of last night I was almost certain I was going to chose the 330 HO. But then reality sunk in and the price tag was too much. Never hurts to dream a little.

My question is this.

Since I have the crossfire injection what parts will I be able to keep from the old engine and use on the new engine and which parts will I have to buy to be able to install the 260hp without breaking the bank.

260hp crate Gm $1500
Labor $1000
Carb not sure what kind $300-500?

well those are the quantities that I know of for sure

Thanks for any help

The 260 crate will accept all of your current parts. Your 82 came from the factory with the crossfire twin tbi injection system so if you have a carb someone did a conversion. The 260 can accept driver or pass side oil dipstick so you will have to plug the side you do not use. Keep in mind that the 260 hp of this crate is based on a 4 bbl carb and open headers. The 260 has the old 929 cam with 195-202 dur at 050 while your l83 engine has 202-206 dur at 050 so is a bit hotter camshaft. With the crossfire set up in stock form you can expect around 200 hp from your crate 260.

This has the L82 cam. Future upgrade of decent 64CC aluminum heads and 1.6 rockers will get you the 330 HP you really want.
Your 82 has the 700R4 and 2.87 rear end. Gets you almost 9 to 1 starting ratio which should work well with this engine. Everything on your motor will bolt right on this.
Free shipping too!!

Before you decide, take a look at the GM L31 crate engine (255 HP). It gives you everything your dream 330 HO has and includes a roller cam. The cam is smaller than the 330HO and you may want to eventually replace. It's $2000 including shipping and has more (and cheaper) improvement potential than the 260 engine you are thinking about.

Note: If your 82 still has injection and you wish to keep it, it will bolt up to the 260 engine, but NOT to the L31.
