Rear suspension is DONE! New Muskegeon Brake Composite leaf spring (340lb), Brute force U-joints, gas shocks, VBP strut rods with poly bushings, Ecklers rebuilt bearing assemblies, new parking brake hardware, new rotors, poly T-arm bushings, and everything refinished, repainted, and undercoated! Looks show quality if I may say so. I purchased really really long spring end bolts locally to get the ride height down where it should be, the "extended" bolts from Muskegeon Brake did not lower the rear enough.
Also, the "icing" on this project was that when I reinstalled the back half of my exhaust system I was ble to tweak the setup to get it looking like it should have looked when it left the shop!! Tips are extended just a little beyond the bezels and centered.
My new gauges (water temp, oil temp, volts, oil press, fuel level) are working fantastic. I went with AutoMeter, and used the classic black faced gauge with red needle and a chrome bezel. Mounted them in a new center gauge cluster, and they look COOL!
My power brake conversion kit is all painted and ready to go in too, but I'm going to wait a month or two and just enjoy the car for awhile.
Interior and A/C are next. I already have the weatherstripping kit sitting in the garage. I can tell that this will be another BIG project, but a good "cold winter weekend" job. Ecklers offers an A/C kit, with new compressor/hoses..etc that uses R134a, kinda pricey but looks like a winner. Anyone tried this kit??
BTW.....the county Titles and Registration Office just called, my personalized plates came in today!!! MAKO 72 is the new plate, and perfect timing for the launch of the completed project!
Sounds like you've made some real progress :yesnod: . It always soooo great to finish a project, especially one as big as you've just done. It's truely amazing what the underside of our cars can look like with some elbow grease and fresh paint :D .
I'd secong the Vintage air kit. If I should every install AC in my car again, it'll probably be from them. Suppose to work real well.
How was the gage install? That's another project on my to do list ;) .
TT II's and sidepipes......cool! Gauges = 2 1/16" AutoMeter gauges. Water Temp, Oil temp, volts, fuel are electric, oil pressure is mechanical. I nixxed the clock in the bezel in favor of an oil temp gauge. Minor mod to seal up the clock adjuster in the gauge bezel. The gauges I used mounted directly into the gauge bezel and look good but not too modern for the original speedo and tach. They "blend" well, any purist would notice, but they don't scream at you like some setups I've seen. Your gauge bezel should be similar (I think), but newer cars without the round gauge holes would require extensive mods to the bezel for these gauges to work.
I re-did my entire rear suspension and I can sorta already tell that the spring bolts arent gonna be long enough. Where'd you get your bolts?
If it isnt one thing its another :mad
