Default wiring

Anyone have any pointers for replacing the wiring under the dash of a 80? Anything would help.

Big job. You should have a copy of the AIM and take lots of photos, while your disassembling the dash and console. Bag and tag all the screws as well. Before starting to put the new harness in, take pictures of all the connectors, everything you can.

Next, remove the old harness entirely. Some people think you can leave the old harness in and wire the old one on top of the new one, but there isn't simply any room.

Before you put the new harness in, buy at least a hundred small zip ties and a good number of the next two to three sizes up. Why so many? Because you're going to take the new harness and coil up every loop and groups of wire and zip tie both in bundles, before you even lay it out. This will help control the inevitable wire mess and tangles.

You start by plugging the whole harness at the new fuse box, which should be in your hand, into the firewall with two small bolts. You then start unrolling the 'groups' to where they go. Upper left dash, center dash, right dash and center console. Once you have that going, you start with the farthest connectors and then work your way back, dressing the harness as you go, combing the harness, so that all the wires are straight and securing them with zip ties.
