Default TPI Conversion Question

For anyone who has done this. I'm going to do it to my 80 L 82. How do I deal with the fuel pump issue ?

I dunno if the tank has a top feed out near the fuel filler, or a bottom feed out the tank like my '72......

IF you do not have a in tank pump, you can just mount a FI pump on the rear frame and get over it.....

BUT, you will have fuel slosh problems if the pickup is not gravity fed from the bottom, that means you need crank forever to reprime the pump....

You have an 80, so the tank is pretty much the same as an 82. You can get an 82 sending unit and an 85 up TPI fuel pump and it will work fine. Mrvette raises a good point about fuel slosh. My 82 starts uncovering the pickup at anything below 1/4 tank. If you can fab up a baffle you'll be ahead of the game on this. If not, just don't run your car less than 1/4 tank and you'll be fine.

I have a 79 with a TPI set-up. I used the 82 sending unit with in tank pump. Ran my high pressure fuel through the original steel fuel line with J30R9 fuel line for all flexible runs. I haven't run into fuel slosh problems yet.

i run a low pressure pump that keeps a swirl pot full, a high pressure pump pulls the fuel from the swirl pot to feed the motor.

something else that is often overlooked is an inertia switch to shut the pumps off.

Not to hi-jack but I'm working on a similar project on my 69' Coupe except I want to mount an F-body LS1 fuel module in the tank.
Does anyone know how much clearance there is from the top of the fuel tank to the bottom of the body (rear deck) on a 69' Coupe?
I'm trying to figure out much room I have to work with for the adapter ring I'll need to mount it.
Thanks!

Nice piece but ouch that price hurts. The 82 tank with 85 pump will support 400+ horse power with a TPI set up but after that, the aero motive will be needed.
Make sure you are using the highest quality fuel line and you will also need a filter in line.

regarding the pump shut off intertia switch, on C4s there is an oil pressure switch that cuts off the power to the fuel pump relay when the pressure drops. I also found a nice new stainless steel sending unit for an 82 on ebay for about $100.00.

I used a 82 sending unit from ebay with a walboro 255 pump to feed my holley efi on my 406 and the sending unit for the gauge has a problem and sticks at 1/4 tank for some reason. Buy a quality one it will save you the hassle in the long run.

Are you 100% sure that is the way that switch works? On F-Bodies it is actually used as a bypass for the fuel pump relay in case the relay fails it doesn't leave you stranded.
