hey, I posted in the Audio forum but was recommended to post here. Does anyone have an pics of how they setup their audio system in their C3? I'm interested in how ohers do it for when I do it myself. Need some clever ideas ;)
i don't really have any pics of mine but i put a detatchable face tape deck in mine with JBL 4x6 in the dash and JVC 6x9 in the rear. i fabricated a 'box' to go all the way across the back of mine like what is sold in ecklers and my previous set up, the box hid a 40 watt amp. the thing i like about the box is that the factory shade still works and it's high enough that the t-tops will still fit underneath it. i do have one pic of the rear compartment that does kind of show what i fabricated.
i don't really have alot in my stereo because i like the sound of my flowmasters as much as anything on the radio but when i restore (restify) the car, i will be installing a CD changer and adding a little more power.
There is a guy in our club that just did a fibreglass install in the rear of his '81. It has 2 x 8' subs and 2 x 4' (?) and he can still fit the t tops in. Painted yellow to match the car, it looks fantastic!
I will ask if he can give me some pics and I'll e-mail them.
Alpine 4x5's up front and Boston Acoustic 6x9's in the rear, everything fit the stock locations. Alpine AM/FM/CD player in the dash which had to be cut but it wasn't great looking anyway. I'm thinking of adding a 6 disc changer in where the glove box is, just remove the plastic bucket.
Awhile back someone asked this same Question and wanted to know how I made my boxes. If your out there and still want to know yell at me. I lost the email address as well as got tied up in other things. Anyway I put Clarion Pro Audio 4X6's up front and Jensen 6X9's in the rear but would use Pioneer if I did it again. Also added a Bazooka Tube with it's own Volume **** and on/off switch and it's easily removable if extra space is needed. Check it out here: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292203005
my 4x6's just dropped in but i could only get two of the screws to line up in the dash. just as well since i can't get anything right up next to the dash to tighten them down.
I didn't want to cut my dash to put in a nice radio so I put it in the back. I made a box to fit in the tire jack compartment. I had plenty of room to fit in the radio and CD changer. The nice thing is that I can close the lid and no one can see my stuff. Ran the CD changer display to the dash. I got two 6x9's and a 8" truck box in the back. Sounds great but no room for my t-tops!
For a head unit I put in Clarion head unit (right now I forget the model #) I did have to cut the guage bezel but I got a faceplate from a company called American International that made the DIN head unit install look clean. For speakers I put two Clarion ProAudio 4X6's in the dash and two behind the kick panels and put a Bazooka powered sub in the cargo area I also threw a 6 disk changer in the back. I liked the idea of the powered sub because it comes out in seconds if you are going to need some of the cargo space and I also didn't have to figure out where to mount an amp or two.
I'll snap some pics of everything when I get home and post them. The install looks real clean and sounds great.
I enjoy my Pioneer system very much. It is a cassette unit as I have a substantial investment in tapes. There is a CD accessory that can be placed in one of the rear storage compartments. BTW, 4x6 front and 6x9 rear is stock.
