I've owned this 69' Corvette for about 4 years now. She is stock, 2nd Flight NCRS, so no odd aftermarket stuff. Anyway, in the last couple months when starting the car, it makes a horrible sound when turning the key back. It typically takes 3 or 4 attempts of pumping the gas a little and turning the engine over before she fires up. However, when turning the key back to the starting position it makes a bad sound. The car does start up just fine and drives fine as well, but I'm guessing by the sound, something is going bad.
In order to make things easier; here is link to a YouTube video I posted with the noise;
Sounds like the starter motor throw in needs lubricated or the bearing is worn. If the starter has not been touched for a long time its probably worth having it stripped and brushes, bearings checked while you are at it JMPO
It does sound starter related, especially since it drives fine after starting. You might want to put a replacement starter from one of the box stores on it so you can drive it while you rebuild your NCRS-correct starter. My concern would be that if your starter malfunctions or breaks apart it could damage the flywheel.
