Default advice on paint and body "touch up" work

i've decided that i don't want to repaint my entire '74 at this point...the original yellow paint is still pretty good shape but there are a few cracks and scratches that need to be repaired...some of these "cracks" will actually require fiberglass repair (one crack about an inch long on the nose & an area about the size of your toe, along with a crack about an inch long on the rear wheel well) -- i'd like to do this body work myself as to save money at the body shop....i think it is more important for me (and the car) to situate the mechanicals at this point (got the car in march), and worry about the asthetics later, but in the meantime i'd like for the car to look straight and respectable....i do want to repaint the door jambs at the same time i paint the new front and rear bumpers to match the car (remember, it doesn't have to be a perfect paint match right now!) -- i'd like advice on prepping the door jambs and removing the old paint from them -- also, can anybody recommend any good reading and or books about fiberglass repair...i'd like to buy a piece of fiberglass to practice repairs on...how would i go about doing that? appreciate your suggestions....

'74 L-48 no factory options 4 speed
pretty much all original at this point
