Well my clutch fan is wobbling, and I am going to buy a new fan assembly, curious if there's a lighter weight clutch fan out there that's a direct replacement? I don't want go Electric, but open to here any and all ideas about fan replacement, what did you use and why? It's pretty simple to buy a stock replace and might be what i do, but looking at the stock fan, from 38 years ago there might be a better mechanical option that cools as good. Flex fans? Clutch? Data/opinions?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Apparently your fan is fine, but you need a clutch or possibly a water pump.

The clutch assembly is wobbling, if you grab the fan and shake it the whole clutch assembly moves which to me means it at bare minimum needs replace. I know most go electric, how ever I want to stay mechanical and the Gm clutch fan is a good fan, but the clutch assembly is fairly heavy for a fan, all I find on line are flex fans and stock replacements, I know nothing about flex fans. My question was and is if you've replaced your mechanical with another mechanical, what type did you use and why? Looking for a lighter rotating mass as well as not wanting to buy a clutch assembly that might have issues and come apart at 6500 rpm, seen that as a teen ager which was pretty ugly for a metal hooded car.

Does it cool as well? Why did you go flex Gary and what advantage besides reduction in rotating mass does it have?

I went with a Flex fan on mine but it is way noisier,
Sounds like a school bus at 10,000 rpm
it cools fine but i may switch back to stock for the noise reason

I would love to say that I wouldn't hear it, but when my clutch fan siezed up earlier this summer, it sounded like a mac truck, that was the for warning to the issues I deal with now, I did get it to free up.

I'm still using the original clutch fan on mine. If I had to replace it I think I would stick with the stock setup.

OK so I went to the cookie cutter parts store and the clutch they had wouldn't fit, but I will try the other box chain stores in town to see if I can find one, corvette Alexander might also have one, but with the season closing out and my hitch at home short, I might have to go with a Flex fan for now and order the clutch.
