If you have power steering how much of the play disappears when the engine is running and the wheels are pointing straight ahead?

Other typical suspects are worn tie-rod ends, idler arm and/or excessive steering box lash.

Steering box or linkage.....watch the movement of the input shaft to the pitman arm coming out of the bottom of the steering box to isolate the box from the linkage ( tie rod ends....steering control valve ) this takes 2 people and some time...I'm betting on a shot steering box with that much slop.

Wheel moves less when parked idling but still has some slop. I just bought this vette it's really nice but I don't like the wondering on the road seems like I'm over steering all the time.

How much is 'some'? Don't expect these cars to be like modern rack and pinion units.
