If an airconditoner is completely empty of R-12...how many cans does it take to completly recharge it (fill it)....?? Lets say 12 oz cans...
probably a dumb question...but curious...?
Thanks
Where are you finding R12? It's supposed to be against the law to sell it.
Take the car to any competent automotive AC shop. R12 remains available to licensed AC technicians. They can troubleshoot and charge your AC.
I buy R12 all the time. I own an auto shop and have three technicians that have the section 609 certification. All you have to have is that certification.
Cost is $20 for the test. If you pass it you can buy all the R12 you want.
Bubba can't pass it because you really need to know A/C systems.
It's not illegal to sell R12. Ebay has all you'd want at around $30/can, but you generally need to either have the above mentioned license or sign a statement indicating you are purchasing the refrigerant for resale to a licensed individual. I've sold some there myself but now I'm down to just 14 cans which I may need some day.

I agree, it would be more cost effective to convert to R-134a than to try and repair and upkeep a non working R-12 system. But then again, there's a new refrigerant that will be coming onto the market soon. 1234-YF is still in the testing phase, and will be the replacement for R-134a. Different chemical makeup/different operating pressures.
I'm finishing my climate control class (tomorrow) at UTI-Orlando, and will be receiving my 609 certification in the mail soon.
