Do I need a new A Arm bushing shaft?
The shaft in the foreground is the A Arm bushing shaft from my car. Compared to the Upper Control Arm bushing shaft in the background of the picture the A Arm bushing is pitted. Is the smoothness of the shaft critical to the bushing function? Should I buy new A Arm shafts, attempt to smooth the pitting or just install new bushings on the existing shafts?
Once properly installed the bushing collar should not twist on the shaft.
The end bolt drives the collar teeth into the shaft shoulder and there it stays. The only time it needs to twist/turn on that portion of the shaft is when you initially set the vehicle on the ground to establish the unsprung position for the bushing. At this point you tighten the end bolt to specifications and it should no longer move.
