you get to the shop to pick up your Vette after dropping it off for its first major once over, a full set of new brakes, lines, a full rear end rebuild and they tell you, when you get there that, "the calipers and lines are already new-er steel ones and the rear is fine... all we needed to replace was the front rotors, all the pads a broken u-joint and some shim thingys. We cleaned up the calipers and tuned your carb, adjusted the timming... lifters... oh yeah, and your 350 isn't a 350, its a stroked 400 sb." :D :yesnod:
Yeah, and it's not a 81 t-top it's really a 69 Vert. Yeah that's it, that's the ticket.
And it was once owned by Pamela Anderson no wait Raquel Welsh :D
I've only had it for a short while now and I've only driven it 3 times cause the front brakes were down to pistons on rotors and the motor was pretty fubar-ed. I couldn't even spin the rears outta first... I knew the brakes were the first priorty so I never bothered diving too deep under the hood.
The guy I repoed it from said the owner befor him said it was was a "modified 427 big block". He was a moron and had no clue what the last owner told him. I opened the (L48) hood and clearly saw a SB that I assumed was a 350 with a cheap chrome package. So I shut it, parked it and never went back till now. I knew it sounded hot but I assumed it was mostly the fault of the true duals...
Anyway we're going back in today after work. I'll post the findings tomorrow or so.
My list of what gets fixed is always longer then what was originally intended when starting. So consider yourself very, very lucky
Finding out it's a 400 SB is a  bonus.
That's crazy  But would be very cool  to find out you had a 400 sb in it. Was there any time you thought you're L-48 was a little fast?
BTW, n8370c I think you've been hangin out at the babe forum a little to much :yesnod:
He heard BAD lifter noise and did a free valve job. He also saved me a cracked piston and any further damage by catching that rod.
...and he knew the lifters were next on my agenda anyway.
Hey Tim
I tried to im you the other day.
I go to/ live at American Graffiti Auto Museum at Jefferson and 44. They just opened about 6 weeks ago. My friend Mark is the engine man, he use to work at Just Vette's and still has a good working relationship with Dennis, he lets us borrow all those expensive one time use Corvette only tools. Amer. Graf. has got about 70 cars on consignment mostly Bow Tie's and Mopar's and a sweet 32 Ford... Jaguar rear end, blown SB... We got its left wheel off the ground comming out of the Burger King drive thru the other day. :D
You should stop by and check the place out. I'll be there tonight at from about 6pm till we sober up.
Hopefully Mark's at Just Vette's right now tapping that rod out... if my parts are in we're starting on the fun stuff tonight.
